LEARNING COACH/LSA

Reporting to the Head of The Learning Hub Part time, term time plus 1 week
28.33 hours per week, 40 weeks a year

Role Purpose:

To work in partnership with the teacher to foster effective participation of students in the social and academic process of the school Learning Support Assistant

The following is an outline of the most significant responsibilities of the role.

Accountabilities:

  • Accountability Statements Working with students
  • Working with individual or groups of children, to assist in ensuring students are working towards achieving learning outcomes set by teachers
  • Deal with behavioural and special needs issues in conjunction with the teacher
  • Refer to Individual Education Plans (IEPs) for students with SEND, if relevant
  • When required, to assist students with physical impairments in completing physiotherapy exercises and/or toileting
  • Help to promote reading with a wide range of students
  • Working with teachers
  • Help implement lesson plans, working towards achieving learning outcomes for SEND students
  • Provide feedback to students without reference to the teacher
  • Take individual students or small groups for defined activities
  • Provide feedback to the teacher on students’ progress
  • In conjunction with the teacher, liaise with parents on student progress, if relevant

Curriculum

  • Liaise with teachers to develop resources/learning approaches, which support the learning outcomes of lessons.
  • Contribute with teacher to lesson content and aims
  • Support and work with teacher in testing/assessment
  • Contribute, with the teacher, to IEPs, if relevant

Whole School

  • Develop specific, specialist understanding of aspect/s of SEND and support other staff in this area when needed
  • Provide support for whole-school literacy through some involvement in the library administration
  • Corporate and statutory initiatives – equalities/health/ and safety/ e-government/ sustainability
  • Maintain an awareness of school, national and statutory policies and requirements and apply these in the workplace
  • Maintain confidentiality
